Greenhouse to your house
What a morning in the nursery I had today! I love this time of year , I get to go through all the green houses and see everthing in all different stages of growth. Easter lilies and bulbs plants were getting loaded and ready to go out the door. It seems like just yesterday they were in greenhouse number 8 just pots of soil to the untrained eye! My assistant and I hand selected some of the prettiest bulb gardens, hydrangeas and other flowering plants to bring back to the store with us. We then dressed them up in baskets and bows and got them ready to head from the backroom to the showroom. It's beginning to feel like a holiday again, could Easter be right around the corner??

Not sure what to say in your card message??
Are you in the doghouse and not sure how to say sorry...try some of these messages.....
-Accept these flowers in place of the words I said.
-I wouldn't have made a mistake with my mouth shut.
-OOPS!
-I'm wrong - you're right.
-I muffed it! I'm so sorry!
-I'll never forgive myself...but I'm hoping you will. I'm sorry.
-I may not be perfect, but my apology is close.
-Will these keys let me out of the doghouse? I'm sorry.

What information should I have on hand when I call Schmidt's to order flowers?
If you are having the flowers delivered, have the recipient's full name, address and telephone number ready.
Any special information such as a work number or times the recipient will be at home are also helpful.
Determine your budget before the call and have your payment information ready.
Be sure to write out what message you would like to include on the enclosure card. (Your florist can offer suggestions if you're not sure what you want the card to say.)
It's also helpful to look at the website to see if a particular design appeals to you.

How do I know what flowers to order from a florist??
Flower shops are a treasure trove of arrangement styles, new flower and plant varieties and gift items. Here are a few tips on working with your florist to create a truly personalized gift:
Tell your florist about the recipient's personality.
Is the recipient a dramatic person? Or perhaps romantic, artistic, traditional or outdoorsy?
What are some of his or her hobbies and interests?
Do you know the recipient's favorite color or flower?
The simple selection of a flower in the recipient's favorite color can really personalize an arrangement. Take the Society of American Florists' Floral Signature Quiz to determine the floral personality of the recipient.
If you are ordering flowers for someone's home, what is the home like? Is it traditional? Or perhaps casual, Victorian, country or contemporary?
Florists are experts at the art of expression. Let your florist help you look great by creating a highly personalized gift.

Tips for ordering flowers
You probably know more about flowers than you think you do! People are becoming more and more familiar with flowers as they become an integral part of our modern culture and play a role in most major life experiences and social settings.
However, professional florists are the real experts, whether you're interested in flower care or varieties. They can help you fine-tune your knowledge of flowers. Florists can also suggest design styles for any occasion. Build a relationship with your local florist, and let him or her be your floral mentor.

Let wedding season begin....
Now that Valentine's has past, wedding season has begun! The last of our spring brides have been coming in to finalize their details. We are all looking forward to the outdoor weddings of May and June! If you haven't picked your florist yet and your wedding is this year...get moving! Those of us floral designers that have been around for a while see it every spring and summer, some one who walks in the door late in the season and has not reserved a florist yet. Many of us are already booked solid, and a reputable flower shop will not overbook themselves. So our advise is always once you pick the date, make sure you have all your vendors reserved!

Funeral Flowers
If you have a funeral in Williamsburg Virginia and are not sure what to do or what to send hopefully a little Schmidt's Flowers history of flowers and funerals will help. Flowers are sent to funeral for a number of reasons. As we know, it is often difficult for us when mourning a death to put our thoughts into words. Flowers are a way to express our love, sympathy and respect visually. They also help to create a a background of warmth and beauty to surround those that are grieving. Spiritually, flowers signify eternity and immortality. In summary, flowers honor the dead and console the living. Still not sure what to send go to http://www.schmidtsflowers.net/ and pick something that reminds you of your loved one.

Ordering Flowers for the Best Value
Here's a couple tips on ordering flowers. If you are on a tight budget, ask if there are any specials. If you know the person has a vase and likes to arrange the flowers send them a wrapped bouquet. Ask also what looks good in the shop if you are not there to see the flowers. Our staff will always tell you what they like! And lastly, let the designers do what they do best and that is deisign.

Wedding Flowers
January is a busy month for us in the flower shop to meet with brides. Here are a few tips for brides regarding their wedding flowers. Most important is to set a budget. Where is it most important for you to have flowers. Make a list of who is getting flowers and where you want to put arrangements.Cut out pictures of bouquets/arrangements you like AND ones you don't like (this helps give the designer a feel for YOUR style). If you have found something you love and think it's out of your budget, ask the designer for a less expensive similar flower or a smaller version to get the look you want. Before you leave your consultation be sure to ask how you reserve your date, deposits, delivery and set up.If delivery and set up is required, who will be on site, a delivery person or a designer to insure a smooth event. Lastly, find out how many events the shop will be doing that day, will you be comfortable with being one of two or three events??
